With national protests erupting over the non-indictment of the police officers involved in the Brown and Eric Garner cases, Richmond served as a rare example of a peaceful protest on Tuesday.
Hundreds of protestors marched in downtown Berkeley Saturday night, protesting the recent non-indictments of the police officers involved in the deaths of the Eric Garner and Michael Brown. The protestors started from University Ave., caused North Berkeley BART Station to close, and marched towards UC Berkeley. While families across the Bay Area celebrated Thanksgiving, Richmond’s Steelers Cadets football team had an extra reason for thanks: they’ll be heading to Florida next week to compete in the national youth football tournament. Dozens of protesters were arrested in Oakland Wednesday during a third night of protests against the grand jury decision in Ferguson, Missouri.
Groundwork Richmond had its second annual event on Saturday recognizing those who have dedicated their time and supported their projects. The free event included family activities and music performances, and VIP tickets were sold to raise funds for the program.
