Driver found dead of multiple gunshot wounds
on October 14, 2013
A driver whose car crashed into a tree Sunday evening was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds.
Richmond Police officers responded to a report of multiple gunshots near Harbour Way and Ohio Avenue Sunday at 5:30 p.m., according to Richmond Police Captain Mark Gagan.
Gagan said officers found evidence of a shooting in the 1000 block of Ohio Avenue and located a car that crashed into a tree about three blocks west of the scene at Seventh Street and Ohio Avenue.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Samuel Morales, was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds, Gagan said.
Gagan said the shooting did not appear to be a random event, but declined to elaborate further.
The shooting marks the city’s 17th homicide this year, including a fatal shooting at the Richmond BART station in March.
He said homicide detectives leading the investigation believe there were numerous witnesses to the shooting because it is a well-traveled location at that time of day.
The Richmond Police Department is requesting that people with information come forward, and is offering a $10,000 reward for any information that helps solve the case.
