Ryan is a Berkeley native, and graduated from Berkeley High School in 1999. He was a literature major at UC Santa Cruz, and received his degree in 2004. Ryan then spent four years with the Santa Cruz Sentinel, where he was a writer and later sports editor. In 2008, Ryan joined AmeriCorps and built houses for the underprivileged as part of Habitat for Humanity. He is a fan of the four-time World Series champion Oakland A’s. Ryan is interested in all types of reporting, although most of his experience is in sports writing.

Hometown star scores two touchdowns against Raiders

Washington Redskins running back Quinton Ganther helped finish off the Raiders on Sunday with two fourth-quarter touchdown runs in the ’Skins 34-13 win.
Then in his postgame comments, he made sure to mention his hometown. A quote attributed to Ganther from the Washington Post:
