The unincorporated area of North Richmond, long a controversial issue for the city, is up for a vote on being officially made part of the city on Tuesday. Residents of the area are divided, some seeing it as a needed way to get access to local services and others seeing it as gentrification and a “land grab.”
A fire engulfed about 40 salvaged cars at Deal Auto Wrecking on Gertrude Avenue in North Richmond this morning, according to Richmond deputy fire chief Emon Usher. The fire has since been put out, according to an alert issued by the Contra Costa County Health Officer.

It wasn’t quite dark in central Richmond, a little before 5 p.m. the day before Thanksgiving. A 13-year-old girl was walking down a flight of stairs, two people were driving north in a white sedan on Carlson Boulevard “when they shot into the direction of the Pullman Townhouses, and kept on driving,” police said.
