Ready to work: Piere P. Clark

Piere P. Clark
Printed at the bottom of Piere Clark’s business card are the words: “Time is wasting… Let’s get started.”
Echoing her favorite saying, Piere Clark constantly challenges herself. The single mother of four grown daughters, she received her B.S. in business management from University of Phoenix in her early 40’s, recently became engaged, rides motorcycles, and still considers obtaining a master’s in web development.
Clark has worked for nearly 15 years in the San Ramon and Oakland city governments as an office coordinator and legislative recorder, and for six years as a human resources assistance and telecommunications coordinator at UC Berkeley. Throughout this period, Clark sometimes also maintained part-time jobs to provide for her children.
“Raising four daughters is especially difficult. I’ve lived as a single mom for ten years, during which it was just challenging to be there and to support everyone. Now I’m starting a new episode of my life with my fiancé,” Clark said with a smile.
Despite her extensive experience, Clark says it’s challenging to find work. “To some degree, there is a little bit of age discrimination in the work place,” she said. “I didn’t think that way before because it was so easy to get a job, but now that I’m older I have to compete with people in the same age group as my daughters.”
At this new stage of her life, Clark is focusing on her career goals. She says she’s determined to be financially independent and seeks a job that will allow her to participate in the improvement of society. She also hopes to provide mentorship for young women.
“Ah, and as soon as I get a job, I also want to see my orthodontist to complete my teeth corrections.”
Her words:
“I think I really go above and beyond to making whatever the goal is of my work. I put on 110 percent to try to make that happen. As my employer, you don’t have to ask twice to get the job done. I give my employers more than what they expect. If you give me a draft of something or some creative idea, I can give you several options.
“I’m definitely a team player. I fully embrace the team dynamic. I’m very punctual and reliable, hard working. I have a lot of experience and I’m sure utilizing that experience would be beneficial for any employer.
“I’m always willing to learn something new.”
