Mara Kardas-Nelson

Mara Kardas-Nelson is pursuing a Masters in Journalism and Masters in Public Health at UC Berkeley (expected 2021). She reports on health, the environment, public policy, politics and international development. Mara has worked in global health for nearly a decade and brings significant experience, and a critical eye, to her journalism. Mara’s work has been published in Al Jazeera, The Nation, NPR, the Mail & Guardian, the British Medical Journal and Bloomberg, among others. In 2010, she received a Mondi Shanduka award, a top honor in South African journalism, for her series on mine waste in the Mail & Guardian.
