Early candidates for Richmond’s mayoral race outline platforms

So far, four candidates have thrown their hats into the ring to compete for Richmond’s highest office. Councilmember Nat Bates, Charles Ramsey, President of West Contra Costa Unified School District’s board, Uche Uwahemu CEO of Cal Bay Consulting Group LLC and Mike Parker of the Richmond Progressive Alliance all have campaigns underway for Richmond’s mayoral election, which will take place in November.
We spoke with these mayoral candidates about their plans for Richmond’s future.
Richmond has seen some positive changes in the past few years: most notably a sharp decline in the crime rate, but poverty—at 17 percent—and unemployment—at 11 percent—remain major concerns.
With a new state-high minimum wage of $13 by 2018, and a controversial plan by Richmond’s current mayor, Gayle McLaughlin, to use eminent domain to seize underwater mortgages in order to help homeowners stay in their homes, we had a lot of questions for these mayoral hopefuls.

These are good candidates for mayor of Richmond, but we need a woman in the race as well. Perhaps Pamela Price of Oakland could take up resident in Richmond, enter this campaign to level the field candidates.
What, there are no qualified women in Richmond to run for mayor? We must import a “carpet bagger” from Oakland that doesn’t know anything about Richmond.
Also if we need to level the playing field, we need a Gay, Lesbian, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, Libertarian, Republican, Muslim, Atheist……………
Tony, you got me on that “Carpetbagger” lol , had me running to the dictionary .
“An outsider who pretends to be an insider is a carpetbagger; he’s a person who tries to take advantage of a group by joining it only for his own personal benefit.” Wow, OMG! We’ll need to be vigilant for the carpetbaggers in this November 2014 elections.
Edwin–the term “carpetbagger” came from the Yankees who came to the South after the Civil War with their luggage (made from thick carpets at the time) who tried to govern the defeated South and control things. Not a complimentary term.
