Restoration Hardware moves for bigger horizons

Upscale luxury furniture retailer Restoration Hardware has outgrown its former Marina Way South location, and now has put down roots in a larger warehouse at 2900 Atlas Road.

Plans started last November for the big move, about the same time the national furniture chain went public. The company, headquartered in Corte Madera, signed a 10-year lease for the new Atlas location.

Now the business can enjoy the space of the 200,000 square-foot building, when before it had to share a 100,000 square-foot warehouse in the Marina Bay Business Park.

“It’s a brand new warehouse. We just outgrew the old location,” said Kelly Astle, Director of Facilities with Restoration Hardware.

He said that the space at the former building will be sublet to Zoe’s Cookies, a company with which Restoration Hardware shared space before.

Presently the new space is used as a storage for sample furniture pieces and as a photography studio to take pictures used on the store website, magazines, and promotions. It also holds corporate offices.

The space was also an opportunity for hiring more employees.

“I’m hoping that we’ll be able to employee a few people,” said Astle. “We don’t need a lot of people though.”

In November Restoration Hardware projected that 100 employees would occupy the Atlas location, the majority of them working in the web photo studio.

So far, Astle said, everything is going well, and he encourages more businesses to make the move to Richmond.

“There are really beautiful places in Richmond,” he said.
