Richmond storage unit becomes unlikely haven for artists

As rent increases in art-friendly cities like Oakland and San Francisco, artists are looking beyond those places to find affordable work spaces. Richmond still has some of the cheapest rents in the Bay, with storage space costing less than half what it does in Oakland and San Francisco, according to Sparefoot. Managers at Bridgeart Space, a hybrid of storage units and artist studios, hope to make the facility the next flourishing art scene in the Greater Bay Area.
