Man dies after shooting on 23rd Street
on September 26, 2012
A Richmond man died on Monday night from multiple gunshot wounds, police said. Detectives are still investigating the case, which they are recording as the 15th homicide this year.
The victim, 23-year-old Van Hopkins Jr., was shot on 23rd Street around 8:30 p.m., Detective Nicole Abetkov said. A possible suspect was seen fleeing from the area, Abetkov said, and police are asking for witnesses to help with the investigation. There was a lot of traffic driving on 23rd Street Monday night, she said.
“Someone must have seen something,” Abetkov said. “Even a minor thing could help.”
The city’s ShotSpotter system recognized the gunshots and notified dispatch.
Witnesses may contact Detective L. Conway, who is leading the investigation, at (510) 620-6622, or call the Richmond Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (510) 232-TIPS.
