Richmond Rockets win big, run streak to five

on January 22, 2012

The Richmond Rockets improved to 10-3 on the season with a dominating win over the Sacramento Heatwave Saturday night.

The final score was 120-102, with the Rockets leading throughout.

The Rockets swept the two-game home set against Sacramento, with Saturday’s win on the heels of a 102-90 drubbing of the Heatwave at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium on Friday night.

“This win further establishes ourselves as a dominant force in the Pacific North Conference,” team president said Keith Hazell as time wound down.

The Rockets, Richmond first and only professional sports franchise, are riding a five-game winning streak under new coach Phranklin McKinney. Former coach Lamar Baker stepped down last month for personal reasons, Hazell said.

The Rockets ran an uptempo offense throughout, ending the third quarter leading 86-77.

Led by the explosive drives of guard Lindsey Hughey and others, the Rockets poured on 34 points in the final quarter to secure the win.

The Rockets next play the NorCal Bears at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium.

Good description of Lindsey Hughey’s drives to score in the last quarter of the Rockets Saturday game. He was getting in there pretty fast.
