Teen killed, another injured during attempted home-invasion robbery
on December 8, 2011
A Richmond resident shot two would-be robbers Wednesday night, killing a 19-year-old man and injuring another man.
The two entered a house on the 400 block of South 35th Street in an attempted armed home-invasion robbery, said Richmond Police Dept. Lt. Bisa French. A resident was inside and scuffled with the suspected robbers before gunfire broke out.
While the suspected robbers did fire their weapons, no residents were seriously injured.
The man who was shot but not killed is recovering from his wounds in the hospital.
“He will be taken into custody once he’s released from the hospital,” French said.
While French said there’s a possibility that there was a larger group involved in the home invasion, police do not have an estimate at this time.
This death marks the 27th homicide this year and the third fatal shooting in two weeks in Richmond and unincorporated North Richmond. Tony Reynolds, 46, was shot in Parchester Village on Dec. 3 and 20-year-old Marquis Hamilton was killed on Nov. 25 in North Richmond.
French said Wednesday’s incident does not appear to be connected to any other recent shooting.
