Man injured, suspect arrested in non-fatal shooting

on September 14, 2011

A 52-year-old man was shot in the left leg and wounded on Cutting Boulevard this morning, said Richmond Police Det. Nicole Abetkov.

Multiple gunshots activated the ShotSpotter detection system from the 2600 block of Cutting Blvd. around 12:38 a.m. Responding officers said they located the victim on the corner of South 25th and Cutting.

Police said they saw a black Saturn traveling northbound on South 25th Street and pursued the vehicle. The driver — who Abetkov said was a 56-year-old man with a warrant for his arrest from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives — was arrested, but a passenger fled from the car on the 1500 block of Chanslor Ave. and has not been located.

Abetkov said the passenger, a black man in his early twenties with dreadlocks down to the middle of his back, is assumed to be the shooter.

At 11 a.m. the victim was in stable condition at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek.

Abetkov asked anyone who saw the suspects in the black Saturn or who has additional information about the incident to call the police department’s non-emergency number at (510) 233-1214, or to call the department’s anonymous tips line at (510) 232-TIPS.
