Get your free soil on Sunday

Richmond residents are invited to bring buckets, bags, and shovels to haul off some fresh dirt Sunday from a parking lot across from the Main Library. People can take home up to three 15-gallon buckets for free. A total of 33 cubic yards will be available at the compost giveaway in the parking lot at 27th St. and Macdonald Ave. The nutrient-rich soil is the first round of compost produced by the city. Trashing the trash

Thirteen hundred volunteers pitched in around Contra Costa County Saturday to collect more than 3,700 pounds of garbage at the annual California Coastal Cleanup.
