Candy Cane Classic Basketball Tournament to be held this weekend

The 30th annual McKelvey and Banks Candy Cane Classic Basketball Tournament will be held Friday through Sunday. Boys and girls ages 14 and under will compete in three divisions from 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. in the Police Activities League gym, Richmond Recreation Center gym and Richmond Auditorium. Crews continue cleaning oil from sunken tugboat

Responders are still cleaning oil leaking from the Tug Tiger, a World War II-era tugboat that sunk on Sunday in the Point Richmond harbor. Although there is no estimate of how much oil was onboard the Tiger, the Coast Guard reported that 590 gallons of oil and water were collected as of Wednesday. The city of Richmond agreed last week to pay $1.5 million to the family of Uriah Dach, a mentally ill man who died after a confrontation with police in 2008. Mystery of the two cars pulled out of the marina may remain unsolved

Richmond Police Department Officer Joey Schlemmer said it is difficult to determine what happened to the two cars discovered in the marina late last week due to the vehicles’ conditions. The two rental cars, one a Ford Taurus from Los Angeles County and the other a Chevy Malibu from Pinole, were reported stolen in 2001. Both are listed as property of Allstate Insurance.
